Ayodhya Ram Mandir

One of the most famous events in modern Indian history will take place on January 22 when the Ayodhya Ram Mandir in Ayodhya, Uttar Pradesh, is officially opened in front of some 8,000 guests.

As the countdown to one of the most anticipated events commences, billions of Indians, aside from those in attendance, will be watching or following the inauguration with great interest.

The construction of the Ram Mandir, which is expected to cost around Rs 1,800 crore, began more than 15 years ago when Ashok Singhal, the president of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad, discussed the idea of building a temple in Ayodhya with AM Naik, the chief executive officer of Larsen & Toubro (L&T).

Prime Minister Narendra Modi lay the foundation stone for the Ayodhya Ram Mandir on August 5, 2020.  The central government established the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust, which was in charge of overseeing the construction of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir.

Following the Supreme Court's historic decision in 2019, which awarded the Hindu side the 2.77-acre Ayodhya site in dispute for the construction of a temple, the construction got underway.

The construction of the temple officially began on August 5, 2020, with a Bhumi-Pujan ceremony (literally, "ground breaking ceremony"). A three-day Vedic ritual was carried out before the groundbreaking event, in which Prime Minister Narendra Modi laid a 40 kilogram me (88 lb) silver block as the foundation stone. To formally invite all of the major deities inside the temple, the day before on August 4th, the Ramarchan Puja, also known as the "Puja of Rama's feet," was performed.

At the Hanuman Garhi Temple in Ayodhya on August 5, Prime Minister Narendra Modi prayed to obtain Hanuman's blessings for the day's activities. This was followed by the groundbreaking ceremony for Ram Mandir. Speaking were Yogi Adityanath, the Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Mohan Bhagwat, the Chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), Narendra Modi, Nritya Gopal Das, Chief of the Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra, and Chief of the Ram Janmabhoomi Nyas.
